The Haryana government has decided to install reverse osmosis (RO) water purification systems in all the government schools across the state from next year. In addition, a decision has also been taken to install solar panels on the rooftops of all government schools. Solar energy produced by these panels would be utilized to run computers.

Initially, RO systems would be installed in government schools in urban areas. Later, the facility of purified drinking water would be extended to rural schoolchildren as well. These decisions were taken in the meeting held on Tuesday and chaired by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar to review the Centre-sponsored schemes.

The CM emphasized on the need to increase the state's own revenue rather than raising debts from other sources. He also directed to constitute a committee under the chief secretary and consisting of finance department officials to find ways to curtail wasteful expenditure.

Khattar ordered the committee to submit list of those schemes for which funds had not been received from the Centre for the last two years so as to take up the matter with the concerned Union ministries. He also ordered that the budget under Centre-sponsored schemes should be fully utilized.
