Using the Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) energy system, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has taken up installation of 1000 kilo watt peak (KWP) of SPV Plant which is expected to cater to 50% of the needs of North Campus School buildings.

The University envisages a saving of 15% in recurring power bills through the solar power plant.

The first unit of 100 KWP was inaugurated by Deputy Secretary (Central Universities), Department of Higher Education, MHRD, D. Ramakrishna Rao in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Appa Rao Podile and other senior officials of the University.

The University of Hyderabad has an ambitious programme of installing solar photo voltaic cells at different locations on the campus to cover 100% of its needs under the net metering policy. Under net metering the university would be able to supply excess power to the grid during day time and draw power from the grid during the non-generation time.
